I got the fright of my life yesterday morning. Being half-term Eldest Child doesn't normally venture from her lair until at least lunchtime. Yesterday morning my bedroom door flew open at 7 am and she dashed in with her laptop under her arm in a state of high excitement. I jumped out of my skin, what on earth was happening, was she on drugs? No nothing so sinister although it did involve an addiction, namely her shopping addiction. She'd set her alarm so as not to miss the Mary Katrantzou capsule collection launching at Top Shop. She had the item in the shopping basket (a silk dry clean only blouse for £80 - don't even go there!) and needed a credit card number. After frantic pleading and insistence that she'd pay me back and to 'chill' about the dry cleaning bills I duly entered the numbers. Before the transaction was finished the item has gone out of stock. For the next 15 minutes she frantically kept trying but to no avail. The site sold out practically instantly. I am now encouraging all high street retailers to embark on designer collaborations as it enables me to see my daughter during daylight hours! I'm slightly apprehensive today. I read late last night that Britons are expected to spend £880 million on Valentine Day. Bear with me for a moment while I undo the button on my waistband. I read this morning that scientists have reported that eating chocolate cake with a full breakfast can help you lose weight. It seemingly aids brain functioning, boosts the metabolism and discourages snacking in the day. I must admit I felt fully alert immediately after my gluttonous breakfast but since then I have had to have a lie down and 3 hours later still feel like I'll never eat again, ever! Father of the Children says my big mistake was I ate the WHOLE cake, he said if I'd read on it must just have been a slice as the entire breakfast should have amounted to 600 calories. Oops, the whole Sara Lee Double Chocolate Layer Cake has 2,080 calories alone! I think I'll just stick to the usual muesli tomorrow morning and a few sit-ups. I believe that some passengers on an easyJet plane travelling from Hamburg to Gatwick recently saw rather more on their flight than they'd bargained for. A male passenger seemingly stripped off in the loo before striding naked down the aeroplane and returning to his seat. No amount of coaxing by crew or passengers could persuade him to cover up so he remained in his birthday suit for the remainder of the flight. I immediately panicked that Father of the Children, often prone to a slight bit of exhibitionism, had been in Germany last week but he insists he was in Munich and not Hamburg. I've missed a trick. The newspapers today are reporting on an artist who has received £10,000 of lottery funding to film herself for 10 minutes every day at the same time and in the same spot. She will ultimately edit her 'emotional journey' of 61 hours of footage down into a 20 minutes short film. Although the Loch scene behind will I'm sure be riveting to watch over the year if I were her I would have done it in the warmth and comfort of my own home. I also think she should possibly have put a bit more thought into her attire. In the head shots I've seen so far she's worn a pink t-shirt, a purple t-shirt, a body warmer and a pink hoodie. If I were her I would have written to fashion houses alerting them to her daily 10 minute 'aarrghh what shall I wear?' crisis and they may have assisted in some way. Father of the Children has been away in Munich for the last couple of days. I'm shortly due to leave the house to collect him and I'm rather anxious. I wonder if it'll be knocked off it's pedestal later?

In contrast alcohol and tobacco prompted much lower levels of desire. During the day our constant efforts to resist temptation seemingly saps our willpower which makes cravings even stronger. I've had a disastrous day today, quite simply awful. My only problem with this is that if today is the first happy day of the year and I feel like this what am I going to feel like on the most depressing day of the year? He was lying recuperating so I thought I'd put him to good use and asked him to find out something for me. Rather than quickly stopping watching sport on his iPad and eagerly assisting me he asked why I didn't just google it myself. I responded that as he was somewhat more idle at that exact moment in time he may find it easier than me. He then proceeded to send me this link - called 'let me google that for you'. Well how has your weekend gone? Ours at Must Get That Towers hasn't exactly gone to plan. Poor Father of the Children has been through the mill somewhat with his back surgery. He had a rather grim reaction to the general anaesthetic so the trials and tribulations of Friday are best glossed over. I did explain to him that I swear like a trooper when I come round from anaesthetic but that didn't make him feel much better as he says I swear like a trooper with no anaesthetic anyway - charming, i was only trying to help! He was released into my charge late on Friday night complete with rather fetching white knee high DVT socks. He insisted on getting up yesterday, came downstairs and promptly fainted and cut his head on the door frame! Since this failed break for freedom he has been a very good patient and has stayed pretty much horizontal. I must say all this nursing and caring has completely wiped me out. My nurses uniform is looking positively ragged with all the running up and down stairs with cups of tea, tasty treats and soothing words. I'm in full relaxed mode tonight so imagine how thrilled I was when I spied this wonderful selection of clothes in the sale at Hush.

It's 7 a.m. and I feel like I've been up for hours but that's because I have! Father of the Children has gone into hospital today for an operation on his back and I had to drop him off at the unsociable hour of 6.15 a.m. Walking around at 5.30 a.m. just isn't right is it? It's too late for being up from the night before but far too early for preparing for the day ahead. He has been unbearable for the last 24 hours though so I was quite glad to hand him over to someone else's care. You see he had received a letter from his Consultant which included the line "on examination the patient was found to be an extremely fit individual". Well this has been shown to everyone; relations, neighbours, passing strangers, even the UPS man. He went as far as printing it out and highlight the text which is a huge event for a man who lives and breathes in a paperless environment! His gloating was silenced temporarily by the Bee Gees track Tragedy coming on the radio as we pulled into the hospital car park…..let's just hope that wasn't an omen…..To keep my mind off the situation here are some stunning new season Great Plains items currently available from Sarah Coggles.

There was great excitement in the Must Get That office when we read yesterday of the planned Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant involving a 1,000 boat flotilla travelling from Putney to Tower Bridge. The seven-mile long procession of Dunkirk little ships, historic vessels, steam boats and tugs is already being prepared. I'm currently rubbing down the Must Get That bath tub in preparation and am looking out our nautical stripes.The flotilla will feature 20,000 people on the water so our attire to ensure we standout is key. Father of the Children was scanning the newspaper this morning and announced in a shocked voice that take-aways (or carry-outs to those of us from North of the border) cost the average family £800 a year. What?? This cannot be true, can it? I promptly got the trusty abacus out and calculated that this works out at £15.38 a week. My £5.75 lamb dansak with a steamed rice at £2.40 brings my bill to £8.15. I'm not a mathematical genius but that leaves just £7.23 for the rest of the family to spend! How lucky I am that they have such tiny appetites. I've just worked out what our usual order costs and to my horror, if we had it every week, which I'm sure we don't, it would cost £1,788.80 a year! Just think of all the clothes I could have instead. With that shocking news we're embarking on a healthy eating/home cooking regime at Must Get That Towers and all money saved will naturally be being diverted into the essential clothing fund!

For those of you who have missed me for the last few days I apologise for my absence. I have been on an undercover mission in the garage and attic looking for evidence of my past. I have had to fill in a form which required information from eons ago which I couldn't for the life of me remember - namely school exams taken and grades received. The whole exercise proved extremely useful as not only did I discover, contrary to popular belief, that I did actually receive a formal education but I also found a box full of old love letters, photographs that I had no memory of at all and a newspaper report with me mentioned as a Ladies Rugby Captain - really?! Yes you've guessed I did the MI5 online test, scored 6/8 and have been advised to apply for an MI5 intelligence officer role! They say that "Incisive intellect and finely balanced judgement are essential, as are outstanding verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to demonstrate resilience and the ability to cope with setbacks, as well as the ability to work well in a team and quickly establish rapport with a wide range of people. Analytical and highly organised, you will have a superb eye for detail, and the perfect balance of sensitivity and confidence. Discretion and integrity are also crucial qualities." Well that's me down to a tee isn't it? I work superbly with my team of one, namely Father of the Children, my written skills are legendary and my ability to cope with setbacks when my size in no long in stock is improving on a daily basis and as for that eye for detail, I can spot a Missoni a mile off…. the job is practically mine - no?!

Aaah I get it now….. but as Madame Bollinger once said "I drink champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty". Couldn't have said it better myself, bottoms up!

Desperate times have called for desperate measures. Due to my complete lack of will power and greedy nature I completely over did it on all fronts this festive season. My body has quite simply gone to rack and ruin. In an effort to regain control of this mass called my body I have embarked on a fitness regime. I increased my running mileage yesterday and as a consequence puffed and panted through the front door like I was gasping my last. Father of the Children, a figures man, took one look at me and asked what my mileage rate was. I looked at the data on my phone and told him. He looked incredulously at me. Was I sure he queried? Of course I was, it said it in black and white. You see my rate seems to be only marginally slower than he does on his bike. He was stunned, he had an athlete in his midst! Even I started to panic slightly as I know I can easily walk 4 miles in an hour but if these figures were correct I was running at a phenomenal rate. After a closer look at the data, I was obviously blinded by sweat, I identified the problem. I was mixing the time it took me to run one mile with my miles per hour rate. So, lets just say for explanation purposes, 11 minutes to do 1 mile isn't quite the same as 11 miles an hour! Atrocious as it is at least I now have a target to beat! I have to stir this mass of goo every day and even feed it some days. It's the equivalent of a cake chain letter as on day 9 I am supposed to split the bubbling frothing mass and pass it on to 3 'friends' whilst making the delicious remnants into a cake for myself. Father of the Children thinks it's hysterical as I normally chuck out anything a second past it's sell by date but here I am with a monster in the kitchen which is of no known origin. It could have been started years ago, people could have deposited anything in it, including snot, but not only am I stirring it and feeding it I'm also now talking to it! The smell of yeast filling the house is making us all lightheaded and it's not being cooked until Saturday! You have been warned…. I'm delivering my 'tokens of friendship' after dark and in disguise. I was perusing the local College's website last night looking to broaden my experience and to see what was happening on the street so to speak. When I last looked it was all about watercolour art, origami animals, cordon bleu cooking, spreadsheet design and car mechanics. How things have changed…my local College is offering a 2 hour course on Saturday morning entitled "Walking in High Heels Safely". The cost of learning this life skill is £9. The days of wobbling endlessly up and down the corridor until you got the hang of it are obviously gone. I'm astounded that people out there are obviously willing to pay to be taught the art. It doesn't say whether heels are provided but at £4.50 an hour I am guessing you have to take your own Louboutins. They then proceeded to download something called WhatsApp on my iPhone. Mid forkful I got a message from Father of the Children sitting opposite me enquiring "Alright Babes?" I beg your pardon? I'd like to make it clear here that we don't live in some grand baronial hall, he was sitting directly opposite me, at a push and if we really wanted to our knees could actually touch! Before I knew it we were having a wee silent banter across the table which truly hacked off the youngsters. I thoroughly recommend giving them some of their own medicine to let them know what it's like. I truly believe that from now on meal times will be text/instant message free!

No sooner had I heaved the Christmas tree out of the front door I find Father of the Children dragging it back in. He read an article yesterday about a chef in Copenhagen who is encouraging us to eat out Christmas trees. Having dusted Heston's mince pies with pine tree scented 'snow' over the festive season and then de-dusted them once I'd tasted them I remain unconvinced. Father of the Children seems to think we'll save a fortune on the weekly shopping bill. I have explained to him that beavers have huge front teeth for a reason and we are not designed to gnash through wood but no he's planning on freeze drying the pine needles. Quite what nutritional qualities this is going to provide a family of 4 I don't know and what items he's expecting to shave off the shopping list because of his new find heaven knows. All I do know is that there's a lot of clattering, sawing and swearing going on in the kitchen which is never a good sign……..

I should have been suspicious when Father of the Children announced we were bunking off this afternoon for a couple of hours. Shock horror, he wanted to take me out without any prompting. I merrily trotted off with him to find that having spent the entire Christmas period together he had obviously tired of my constant running commentary of life. Our hot date was to the silent movie, The Artist. Fortunately for him I have not taken offence, it was the best film I've seen this year. The most alarming thing is 'silent' is unbelievably quiet. At times I couldn't even swallow as the noise I made seemed to reverberate around the room. It's definitely not one to go to with your pick and mix and bag of chocolate eclairs. Anyway for a blissful 100 minutes we were returned to the silent movie era of 1927 and I dreamt I was Peppy Miller. If you do one thing this weekend, I implore you go and see this movie, you won't regret it I promise!

The Royal Mint have come to the rescue of football widows up and down the country. I conceded to Sky entering Must Get That Towers on the proviso that it wouldn't be permanently stuck on the football channel. It won't surprise you to hear that, although promises were made, all that's been on Sky since installation is football. There are two benefits to this, firstly I have seen far more athletic male torso's than I would normally see in December and January and secondly the offside rule is no longer a mystery to me as with football being on constantly it has entered my being by a process of osmosis. Worry not if it's still alien to you as a new 50p coin has been introduced showing a diagram explaining the offside rule. Once you get to grips with the fact that the teepee shape is playing the arch shape it all makes perfect sense. I am now going to be travelling to grounds up and down the land with my pockets full of 50p's handing them out to referees and their officials!

We've started out annual debate in Must Get That Towers about when Twelfth Night actually falls. I think the decorations need to be down by the evening of 5th January whereas other family members are pushing for the 6th January. According to tradition, it is unlucky to leave decorations up in the home beyond the end of the festive season, marked by Twelfth Night. It's also reported that anyone who forgets to take them down must leave them in place all year to avoid misfortune. Although I am exceedingly proud of the fact that the tree hasn't shed any needles yet I think I may be pushing my luck leaving it up for a further year! While I 'wikipedied' in an effort to swot up on Epiphany etiquette my eyes alighted on the fact that traditionally the punch called wassail is consumed especially on Twelfth Night. Being rather partial to a spot of warm mulled cider I may just spread the decoration dismantle over 2 nights!

These cobwebs are taking some blowing away I tell you. I spent yesterday and most of this morning reading about what I should (or rather shouldn't) be eating and most of this afternoon reading about what exercise would be best for tackling my 'problem' areas. I eventually stormed out the room as Father of the Children was getting into full flow on my fifth area. He even had the audacity to veer onto mental areas not just physical! He says he didn't realise I just wanted my main one, like that makes me feel any better! Rather than stew indoors at my lot I pulled on my wellies and headed out over the open fields and jolly bracing and uplifting it was too.
