I got the fright of my life yesterday morning. Being half-term Eldest Child doesn't normally venture from her lair until at least lunchtime. Yesterday morning my bedroom door flew open at 7 am and she dashed in with her laptop under her arm in a state of high excitement. I jumped out of my skin, what on earth was happening, was she on drugs? No nothing so sinister although it did involve an addiction, namely her shopping addiction. She'd set her alarm so as not to miss the Mary Katrantzou capsule collection launching at Top Shop. She had the item in the shopping basket (a silk dry clean only blouse for £80 - don't even go there!) and needed a credit card number. After frantic pleading and insistence that she'd pay me back and to 'chill' about the dry cleaning bills I duly entered the numbers. Before the transaction was finished the item has gone out of stock. For the next 15 minutes she frantically kept trying but to no avail. The site sold out practically instantly. I am now encouraging all high street retailers to embark on designer collaborations as it enables me to see my daughter during daylight hours! If money is no object in your house here are some stunning Mary Katrantzou creations currently available at Stylebop.

I know you have all been in suspense since yesterday, waiting patiently to know what Father of the Children pulled out the bag for Valentine's Day. I'll get straight to the point. It wasn't good - a bunch of lilies - which if I'm not very much mistaken signify death! There were no red roses for passion and fiery love or even tulips representing undying love just deathly white lilies. Let's just say he won't be making that mistake ever again! It wasn't all doom and gloom though as Tegan Fashion, a stunning online only division of French Connection, joined the Must Get That stable yesterday. So without further ado here's a selection of my top picks from the exciting and innovative brand dedicated to affordable luxury.

I'm slightly apprehensive today. I read late last night that Britons are expected to spend £880 million on Valentine Day. Contrary to popular belief it's men who spend the vast majority of that money, spending a whopping £600 million. The top 10 gifts for ladies are seemingly 1. Flowers (as long as they are not chrysanthemums or carnations), 2. Chocolates (any sort), 3. Romantic meal (and no, a drive-thru does not fall into this category), 4. Perfume (yes please), 5. Cuddly toy (no thanks), 6. Night in a hotel (remember it's my treat so the hotel should not be located near a football ground), 7. Lingerie (if unsure of size buy too small rather than too big, we want laughter not tears), 8. UK Mini break (Travelodge commissioned the survey!) 9. Jewellery (remember you can never go wrong with diamonds) and 10. Beauty treatments (are you saying I need help in that department?). With the average spend being £39.99 I'm guessing some items must feature more than others. There's currently a lot of rustling going on in the garage so I dread to think what is going to appear in the next few minutes……….

Bear with me for a moment while I undo the button on my waistband. I read this morning that scientists have reported that eating chocolate cake with a full breakfast can help you lose weight. It seemingly aids brain functioning, boosts the metabolism and discourages snacking in the day. I must admit I felt fully alert immediately after my gluttonous breakfast but since then I have had to have a lie down and 3 hours later still feel like I'll never eat again, ever! Father of the Children says my big mistake was I ate the WHOLE cake, he said if I'd read on it must just have been a slice as the entire breakfast should have amounted to 600 calories. Oops, the whole Sara Lee Double Chocolate Layer Cake has 2,080 calories alone! I think I'll just stick to the usual muesli tomorrow morning and a few sit-ups. It won't surprise you to hear I'm not featuring clothes today as nothing fits! Thank heavens for these gorgeous bags and purses from Lulu Guinness to brighten my day.

I believe that some passengers on an easyJet plane travelling from Hamburg to Gatwick recently saw rather more on their flight than they'd bargained for. A male passenger seemingly stripped off in the loo before striding naked down the aeroplane and returning to his seat. No amount of coaxing by crew or passengers could persuade him to cover up so he remained in his birthday suit for the remainder of the flight. Fortunately he was allowed to keep his tray table down during landing! What drove him to this act I wonder? The only explanation I can possibly give is that he got dressed in the dark and on seeing his ensemble in the bright lights of the inflight loo immediately realised his outfit was horrific so he was driven to ditch it. I still wince at the time I found myself out and about with one black shoe and one blue shoe on. I immediately panicked that Father of the Children, often prone to a slight bit of exhibitionism, had been in Germany last week but he insists he was in Munich and not Hamburg. To spare the gentleman in question any further embarrassment here are some splendid items from mustgetthat to add to his somewhat depleted wardrobe.

I've missed a trick. The newspapers today are reporting on an artist who has received £10,000 of lottery funding to film herself for 10 minutes every day at the same time and in the same spot. She will ultimately edit her 'emotional journey' of 61 hours of footage down into a 20 minutes short film. Although the Loch scene behind will I'm sure be riveting to watch over the year if I were her I would have done it in the warmth and comfort of my own home. I also think she should possibly have put a bit more thought into her attire. In the head shots I've seen so far she's worn a pink t-shirt, a purple t-shirt, a body warmer and a pink hoodie. If I were her I would have written to fashion houses alerting them to her daily 10 minute 'aarrghh what shall I wear?' crisis and they may have assisted in some way. Here are 6 tops which may help to spice up the film footage slightly.

Bbbrrhh it's freezing here, I don't know what it's like in your neck of the woods but I'm struggling to keep cosy. I went out for a 6 mile walk first thing this morning with a girlfriend as part of our Moonwalk training. With the temperature gauge showing -5 degrees the thought of wandering around London in a bra in 14 weeks time was the furthest thing from my mind. I went for the warm, practical look this morning and fortunately I don't think anyone recognised me. I borrowed Eldest Child's ski thermals and they worked a treat. I did mention to my friend though that if I was run over I would be much obliged if she could whip the grey thermal long johns off from under my tracksuit before the ambulance arrived! Here are some stunning thermals currently available online which will transform the Arctic days ahead!

Don't knock them until you've tried them! This John Lewis Thermal Leggings in Black or White from John Lewis will transform a cold Winters day into something practically enjoyable.

Don't panic boys, I know Marks & Spencer are calling this Cotton Blend Long Sleeve Thermal Vest a 'Vest' but let's just think of it as a cosy, long sleeved t-shirt. There, that wasn't so bad was it?.

Imagine standing on the terrace or side of the pitch with these Marks & Spencer Ribbed Thermal Longpants on under your jeans. Your friends won't understand why you're not freezing like them. I promise I won't tell, it'll be our little secret!

Father of the Children has been away in Munich for the last couple of days. I'm shortly due to leave the house to collect him and I'm rather anxious. He called me yesterday asking me what size I was in European figures. My heart sank. This would imply he may be contemplating buying me something to wear. I don't mean to sound ungrateful but he has form, so much so that he's been banned from buying me anything on business trips! I have a drawer full of rejected items. Don't gasp at my ungratefulness, they were hideous and nobody I know would have accepted them far less worn them. We have the solar system polyester scarf, endless items of underwear that would fit a teeny tiny Barbie doll, the Peter Rabbit jumper…I'm shuddering at the memories. Nestled in amongst the clothes are also pieces of jewellery that have to be seen to be believed and of course there's the Paris famous landmarks candle which currently holds number one spot. I wonder if it'll be knocked off it's pedestal later?

Researchers in America are now claiming that Facebook and Twitter are more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol! According to a study of people's everyday desires, sleep and 'extra curricular activities' (Father of the Children's parental control won't let me type the 3 letter word!) were the two things people longed for most in the day but urges to keep on top of social networks were the hardest to resist! In contrast alcohol and tobacco prompted much lower levels of desire. During the day our constant efforts to resist temptation seemingly saps our willpower which makes cravings even stronger. The researchers don't mention where home shopping comes in the list of everyday desires - what do you mean I'm alone on that one? It can't just be me, can it?

I've had a disastrous day today, quite simply awful. I won't bore you with the details but it's been one of those days when the temptation to climb back into bed and shut the curtains at about 11 a.m. was extremely hard to fight. Imagine my complete disbelief then when I found out that today is Happy Monday, the first happy day of the year according to psychologists. Seemingly we all go into work on Monday 30th January "with renewed vigour" as we've had our first pay cheque of the new year and many of us have seemingly booked our Summer holidays. My only problem with this is that if today is the first happy day of the year and I feel like this what am I going to feel like on the most depressing day of the year? Off to ponder over a truckload of chocolate and a vat of wine.

Things are getting serious. Moira Stuart has gone from green to red. She's now shouting at me from my Sunday newspapers informing me that "Time is running out". My self assessment tax return is screaming out to be completed by the end of the month. Long term readers will know we have the same tears and tribulations every year. Father of the Children seems to think it's something I should be capable of doing myself and as an adult I should be responsible for filling in my own online form. I don't want to do it though as I'm so scared I fill it in wrong. If he fills it in for me and it's wrong I'll go to jail but it won't be my fault but if I do it myself and get it wrong I only have myself to blame. We've reached a stale mate but I feel sure he'll melt first, how would he possibly cope without me? Here are some wonderful times form Ted Baker to take my mind off Moira!

I've been to hell and back today. Right now I'm lying in a drunken stupor recovering. What have I been up to I hear you ask? Only clothes shopping with Father of the Children for the first (and last time) in 3 years! It was hell on earth. How can it take so long to try on clothes? In the length of time he bought a solitary suit and a pair of boots I could have bought my entire SS12/AW12 collection! Home shopping is most definitely the answer, why on earth did I not think of it earlier? It won't surprise you to hear he's ended up buying everything that was on mustgetthat in the first place!

Just a quickie today as I'm preparing for Burns Night tonight. The Cock-a-Leekie is on the hob and the Tipsy Laird is in the fridge. I've just got to hunt down the haggis and wring it's neck, peel the neeps and tatties and all will be braw. For those who live South of the border, panic not, normal service (well as normal as it can ever be) will resume tomorrow!

You could cut the atmosphere at Must Get That Towers with a knife this afternoon. The patient is wearing my patience extremely thin. He was lying recuperating so I thought I'd put him to good use and asked him to find out something for me. Rather than quickly stopping watching sport on his iPad and eagerly assisting me he asked why I didn't just google it myself. I responded that as he was somewhat more idle at that exact moment in time he may find it easier than me. He then proceeded to send me this link - called 'let me google that for you'. Their blurb says it's "For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than google it for themselves". He thinks it's really funny, I don't. The quicker he's vertical and back at his desk the better!

We adore this Limited Collection Pure Cotton Hooded Parka from Marks and Spencer. It features a funnel neck with hood, long turn up sleeve and multiple pockets with flap feature. The model in the images seems to be so taken by it she's forgotten to put her trousers on!

Pretty feminine florals are going to be everywhere this SS12 so this Spring Tea Dress from Boden caused a flurry of interest when it sailed across our screen. The hardest part is choosing which of the 4 colours to go for, after much deliberation I think I've chosen, have you?.

Well how has your weekend gone? Ours at Must Get That Towers hasn't exactly gone to plan. Poor Father of the Children has been through the mill somewhat with his back surgery. He had a rather grim reaction to the general anaesthetic so the trials and tribulations of Friday are best glossed over. I did explain to him that I swear like a trooper when I come round from anaesthetic but that didn't make him feel much better as he says I swear like a trooper with no anaesthetic anyway - charming, i was only trying to help! He was released into my charge late on Friday night complete with rather fetching white knee high DVT socks. He insisted on getting up yesterday, came downstairs and promptly fainted and cut his head on the door frame! Since this failed break for freedom he has been a very good patient and has stayed pretty much horizontal. I must say all this nursing and caring has completely wiped me out. My nurses uniform is looking positively ragged with all the running up and down stairs with cups of tea, tasty treats and soothing words. I'm in full relaxed mode tonight so imagine how thrilled I was when I spied this wonderful selection of clothes in the sale at Hush.

It's 7 a.m. and I feel like I've been up for hours but that's because I have! Father of the Children has gone into hospital today for an operation on his back and I had to drop him off at the unsociable hour of 6.15 a.m. Walking around at 5.30 a.m. just isn't right is it? It's too late for being up from the night before but far too early for preparing for the day ahead. He has been unbearable for the last 24 hours though so I was quite glad to hand him over to someone else's care. You see he had received a letter from his Consultant which included the line "on examination the patient was found to be an extremely fit individual". Well this has been shown to everyone; relations, neighbours, passing strangers, even the UPS man. He went as far as printing it out and highlight the text which is a huge event for a man who lives and breathes in a paperless environment! His gloating was silenced temporarily by the Bee Gees track Tragedy coming on the radio as we pulled into the hospital car park…..let's just hope that wasn't an omen…..To keep my mind off the situation here are some stunning new season Great Plains items currently available from Sarah Coggles.

There was great excitement in the Must Get That office when we read yesterday of the planned Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant involving a 1,000 boat flotilla travelling from Putney to Tower Bridge. The seven-mile long procession of Dunkirk little ships, historic vessels, steam boats and tugs is already being prepared. I'm currently rubbing down the Must Get That bath tub in preparation and am looking out our nautical stripes. The flotilla will feature 20,000 people on the water so our attire to ensure we standout is key. London at the beginning of June may bear no resemblance to the French Riviera in August but I can guarantee that stripes will abound so without further ado here are some stunning nautical items that caught our eye today.

Father of the Children was scanning the newspaper this morning and announced in a shocked voice that take-aways (or carry-outs to those of us from North of the border) cost the average family £800 a year. What?? This cannot be true, can it? I promptly got the trusty abacus out and calculated that this works out at £15.38 a week. My £5.75 lamb dansak with a steamed rice at £2.40 brings my bill to £8.15. I'm not a mathematical genius but that leaves just £7.23 for the rest of the family to spend! How lucky I am that they have such tiny appetites. I've just worked out what our usual order costs and to my horror, if we had it every week, which I'm sure we don't, it would cost £1,788.80 a year! Just think of all the clothes I could have instead. With that shocking news we're embarking on a healthy eating/home cooking regime at Must Get That Towers and all money saved will naturally be being diverted into the essential clothing fund!
